Pender Island Camping 2022

For this year’s lab retreat, we ventured over to Pender Island! We camped at Prior Centennial Campground in the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. Retreat activities this year included several hikes where we soaked in the beautiful vistas of the Gulf Islands, kayaking (with double kayaks) around North Pender Island, disc golf, and Yardzee. We also had several discussions about strategies to protect grad student mental health, and the influence of climate change on the field of conservation. The trip was rounded off by a visit to Brooks Point Regional Park at low tide, where we looked for kelp and intertidal invertebrates. As always, the retreat was a great way to reconnect, help bring the team together, and bond with our newest lab members! We are excited for what this year has in store!
